The purpose of the Head of IT is to direct the IT
strategy for the business, while leading the
efforts around innovation, architecture, solution
delivery, IT Operations and Business Intelligence.
The HoIT will therefore be responsible for leading
both operational delivery and strategic
transformation projects.
In accordance with the client's Employment Equity
Plan this is an AA/EE appointment.
The purpose of the Head of IT is to direct the IT
strategy for the business, while leading the
efforts around innovation, architecture, solution
delivery, IT Operations and Business Intelligence.
The HoIT will therefore be responsible for leading
both operational delivery and strategic
transformation projects.
Operational Delivery teams at our client’s company
strive to achieve high levels of end user
satisfaction through well-articulated
communication and predictable, stable IT delivery
and support. The strategic transformation focus of
IT includes the technical leadership and strategy
for enterprise architecture, transformational
business programs and the strategic roadmap for
IT in supporting business strategy.
The HoIT is expected to define the strategy and
roadmap for adoption and implementation of IT
frameworks, methodologies and technologies to
support these value stream components.
This is a collaborative, business facing role and
requires strong decisive leadership, empathetic
interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate
technical opportunities and plans in a business
oriented style. A strong broad-based technical
background is an imperative.
This is also a line role, responsible for career
management of a senior team comprising
architecture, service delivery, business intelligence
and software delivery roles.
Responsibilities
Define and communicate the IT strategy for the
business;
Define and evolve the bi-modal responsibilities of
IT, to be both an “Engine Room” and a
“Transformational Catalyst”;
Define and communicate the IT change roadmap;
Develop the vision and roadmap for Enterprise
Architecture;
Develop and communicate the vision for Enterprise
Information Management, Business Intelligence,
and Technical Data management;
Make decisions on architecture that benefit
business solutions, project ambition, and the
strategic IT agenda;
Introduce and evolve metrics and processes to
track the transformational impact of IT on the
business;
Ensure that good governance processes and
frameworks are used to manage the responsibilities
for IT to both protect the business and enable
transformation change and growth;
Ensure that good governance processes and
frameworks are used to manage the quality of
solutions delivered to the business;
Ensure that customer facing technology products
and services are delivered in line with agreed SLAs
and budgets;
Devise appropriate Service Level Agreements and
Key Performance Indicators between business and
technology and the progressive management
thereof;
Feed into technology strategy and plans for
implementation, delivery and support that provide
the company with a competitive advantage;
Execute IT governance principles and implement
audit and regulatory controls in order to minimise
risk in these areas;
Understand the impact that all regulatory bodies
impose on financial institutions in order to inform
the strategic agenda as well any policies that exist
within our financing partner’s group;
Identify transformational synergies between
ourselves and our partners where applicable;
Work to ensure a collaborative culture exists within
the senior technology team;
Define and maintain the IT charter; and
Collaborate with the CFO to develop and manage
the overall IT budget.
Qualifications, Experience and Traits
Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems
or related field.
Minimum of 15 years’ experience in Information &
Communications Technology;
Strategic thinker;
Excellent conceptual and architectural
communication skills;
Experience managing a diverse IT landscape;
Experience in Financial Services IT;
Directing and leading technology projects in the
Internet, Digital and mobile space;
Strong knowledge and experience of IT delivery and
management frameworks;
Management experience in a technical capacity;
Experience leading matrix-based teams in a fast
changing environment;
Experience working with diverse and demanding
stakeholders;
Experience working in an agile environment;
Proven ability to communicate with technical and
non-technical executives;
Humility - do whatever is necessary to help the
team achieve its goal, recognising the value in all
team members and by example lead others to the
same opinion;
Commitment - must feel the same high level of
commitment to development projects, solution
support and operational excellence as do team
members;
Resilience – ability to endure through change and
continue to drive out value and progress towards
long terms goals;
Able to exert influence without resorting to a

and
A high degree of corporate political skill is an
advantage.
